File tracking is the service that automatically notifies the file author that the file has
been opened and/or read.
For what purpose the file tracking can be used?
It can be used if file author wants to...
1. Confirm that the file has been read by the recipient (if recipient is a
group, this tool can 'not' recognize the 'individual' person who has opened the file).
2. Know number of times the file has been opened.
3. Know the date and time when the file was opened.
4. Know the ip address from where the file has been opened.
How file tracking system works?
To make a file traceable you have to insert 'Tracker Element' in that file (procedure to
do this is given below). When this traceable file is opened the tracker element causes to
create a connection to ePageCollection.com and hence get logged. So the file tracker system
to work properly the computer on which file is opened 'must' be connected to internet.
How can I make traceable file?
ePageCollection.com provides you an online tool to make traceable file.
To use this tool you have to
register under
ePageCollection.com. You will get a link in
'User Panel' that will take you to File Tracker From. Select the type of file you want to
track and fill other information in the form. When you submit the form you will get a sample
file with 'Tracker Element'. You have to drag-drop or copy-paste that tracker element to the
file that you want to track. Note that tracker for *.doc file may 'not' work for *.xls file so
choose the proper type of file you want to track.
How can I get tracking information?
There is an option 'My File Trackers', under 'User Panel', you can use it to get all the tracking information including date and time at which file was opened, ip address from where the file was opened, number of times the file has been opened etc. You can download it as .log file for your records.
